Motorola Design Challenge

I've had this blog up for awhile now so I thought I should tell you all what it's about. This is a competition entry for the Motorola Design Challenge which has a Moulin Rouge c.1890 theme. My illustration made me a top ten finalist and so I had to go ahead and make the outfit....it's been quite the summer. Browse through the pictures that I've taken while working on this project! And check back in about a month to see new pictures of the final outfit on the real model.

Bodice...the good copy

Here's the start of my bodice going together. I tried to match the pattern throughout it....that was a challenge. More to come on the bodice...

So far so good...

Porcupine

Getting the lineing ready to handsew into the jacket. There's isn't enough room in there to bag it....lots of hand sewing to do tonight, when I go to visit the old apartment.

Sewing, sewing, sewing

Model Fitting

This looks a little funny right now but it's still pieces of different things put together in random stages of finished state....hopefully it'll look better when I finish. Note the cool shoes that Nancy leant me for the show....the perfect look for my costume dress.

Bodice revisited

This is my new bodice muslin. It's not too bad, there's definitly hope for it....the real bodice will be boned like crazy and have some underwire for support.

Model Fitting Update.

Wow, my model is beautiful but also super tiny. My bodice muslin was way too big and not the right proportion in length for her. It's my biggest thing to fix for the real garment and that will be an interesting challenge since I don't get another fitting. Gone are my hopes of being able to wear this dress to an elaborate costume party....unless I wear it as a corset...and I'm not into that.

Beading again....

And some more beading....

Beading continued
